Darrell J. Marriott, age 61, of Clyde, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026 at home with his
loving family by his side.
Born September 16, 1964, Darrell was raised in Savannah, NY. After marrying his high school
sweetheart he made his home in Clyde where they built their life together and raised their
family.
Darrell graduated from Clyde Savannah Central School as a member of the Class of 1982.
During his high school years he was well known for his athleticism and excelled in both football
and baseball. He attended Mansfield State College on a football scholarship, but sadly a
preseason injury brought his football career to an end. His love for sports, however, never
faded. He went on to participate in local men’s softball, flag football and bowling leagues. He
was an umpire for high school baseball and, a coach for both of his children on their Little
League softball and baseball teams. For many years his voice could be heard as the official
announcer for the Clyde Savannah Golden Eagles and Junior Eagles football teams. In 2016
his devotion to local athletics was permanently honored with his induction into the Clyde
Sports Hall of Fame. At home he could be found cheering for his favorite teams: the NY
Yankees, the Boston Bruins, the Dallas Cowboys and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
After exploring different career paths, he returned to school to pursue his dream of becoming a
barber. He went on to proudly open The Olde Erie Hair Shoppe, where he built
a 27-year legacy as a familiar face, trusted friend and highly valued member of the Clyde
community. His shop was more than a place for a hair cut-it was a gathering place for stories,
laughter and friendly banter.
He will be remembered for his humor, sarcasm, kindness, and the uncanny gift to gab. Above
all, he will remembered for his deep love for his family, especially his three granddaughters.
He was their greatest cheerleader, their playmate, and source of wisdom. He was a proud
poppa who cherished every moment they spent together.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Flora Belle Marriott, his in-laws Thomas
Castellano, and Pat Castellano; his brother, David; and his sisters in-laws Annette and Rose.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years MaryBeth; his loving children Kayleigh Sorensen
and Jordan Marriott and his wife Meaghean; his cherished granddaughters Sophia, Emma and
Sylvee; his brothers John(Beth), Steve, Scott(Jackie), and Jason(Christina), and many nieces
and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful to the hospice team from RRH, especially his nurse Courtney
Schultz, and to their local community and friends for the meals, prayers, kindness and support
provided over the last several months. They also want to extend a special thank you to Fred
Baker, Aunt Diane and Uncle Jim Darnell, and their close friends in “the Hood” for their
constant texts, calls, visits and boundless love during this time.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 20, 2026 at Stone Tap Eight located on Rt
31 in Clyde starting at 3 pm.
in lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests that you perform an act of kindness in his
memory, or bring a favorite photo or written memory of him to share at the celebration.
